Speed Up Your Course Creation: 6 Effective Strategies
Building an online course is a fantastic way to share your expertise and generate income, but the process can seem daunting, especially if your schedule is already packed. I don’t want a full calendar to be the reason you don't take action on your dreams. So here are some of my best tips for carving out the time to work on your course and speeding up the creation process.
1. Schedule a Power Hour Each Day
Commit to spending one hour per day on your course. The best time to do this is in the morning before the hustle and bustle of the day kicks in. When you’re fresh and full of energy, you can be more productive and focused.
Grab your calendar or project management tool (I love ClickUp, but Asana works great too) and set a recurring daily task to work on your course. Make it a non-negotiable part of your routine. This daily commitment not only makes the task manageable but also creates a consistent habit.
2. Start Now, Refine Later
One of the biggest obstacles to course creation is overthinking. The key is to just start. Action brings clarity. When you take even the smallest step, you move closer to your goal. You’ll figure things out as you go.
Even with just one hour a day, you'll be amazed at how much progress you can make by taking consistent, small steps forward. Trust in the process and keep moving.
3. Progress Over Perfection
Your first version of your course is just that – version 1. It will evolve with you, so try to let go of the pressure and give yourself permission to take messy action. Often, we actually do have enough time, but we let our mindset hold us back from making the most of it.
Remember, perfection is the enemy of progress. Focus on getting your content out there and refining it over time.
4. Decide and Move Forward
Procrastination can significantly slow down your progress. Many people waste months choosing their course platform, debating over the perfect layout, or agonizing over the details. No choice is perfect. What’s important is to make a decision and move forward.
For instance, I use and love Kajabi. It’s the Swiss Army knife for small businesses. You can create and house courses, send emails, host your videos instead of using Vimeo, and so much more. You can even build your whole website in it! It’s one seamless platform for all you need. The key is to choose a platform that works for you and start creating.
5. Optimize Your Daily Routine
Take a close look at how you spend your day. Are there habits that don’t serve you? Maybe it's scrolling on TikTok in the morning or binge-watching Netflix in the evening. Identify these time-wasters and cut back on them.
Replace that time with activities that move you closer to your goal. Remember, how you spend your time is a reflection of your priorities. By making conscious choices about how you use your time, you can find those extra hours to dedicate to your course creation.
6. Rethink Your Strategy
f the idea of creating a full-fledged course already feels overwhelming, there's an easier way! Consider starting with an email course. They allow you to share your knowledge in manageable chunks, and they can be just as impactful. They’re perfect for a first-time course creator and help you get your idea out the door quickly and seamlessly.
They can also boost your confidence in course creation, so you're ready to take on that full-fledged course next time!
